One Of The Best I've Used

This is a really useful tool if you like grating fresh parmesan or pecorino on your food. I will say it does take some hand strength to use effectively, especially if the cheese is hard, so if you have weak hands this may not be great for you. This isn't the fault of this specific grater however. It is just the nature of these types of handheld graters in general. I've had many over the years and this is one of the very best I've owned. The plastic grating containers are a nice touch.

READ Review for details; but Customer service to rival that of even Amazon!

If you plan to grate cheese like pecorino romano or parmesan hard cheese, look for another grater. My first one developed a crack in the drum after a few months, I figured I was washing it with water that was too hot. Wearing gloves I tend to wash with very hot water as I don't feel it through the gloves. My second one broke after 2 months of use but this time it was the stem on the drum insert. See picture. I contacted the company, advised them it broke and you know what I got back in return? crickets. Nothing but silence. The best advice I can offer, look for something made as if its not meant to be disposable.EDIT:I received a message from the manufacturer. Nancy addressed the issues I had by detailing that there was an issue with the manufacturing process that caused some units to fail as I experienced. Given both of mine were from such a close time period, both came from the same lot.Nancy has taken steps to go above and beyond correcting the issue of the broken graters and for that, I am pleasantly surprised. It is rare when a manufacturer/seller values a customer let alone exceed expectations by leaps and bounds.I look forward to the replacement grater for our next dinner!I've always thought, defects can happen but how a company responds to it is the key to whether or not I will buy from them again. Based on my interaction, the company is deserving of my continued support.Edit 2:So it’s been nearly a year that we’ve been using the replacement and it’s held up. Because it’s white color matches our plates and tableware, we mainly use it when having dinner in the dining room which is not every day. I also use it when I’m grating chocolate for desserts.

Sturdy replacement sent immediately

They provided a sturdy replacement and new sturdy drums immediately after I contacted the manufacturer/seller after the first drum broke (see the picture). I am, therefore, updating the review because the manufactuer/seller stands behind their product. The new drum seems sturdier. I learned that the first set of drums was defective. The first Vivaant grater never seemed sturdy. We used it to grate pecorino and Parmesan cheese. Before it broke, the grater did allow for grating a good amount of cheese for a dish in short time. But, from the beginning, the plastic seemed brittle and maybe not up to the task. Sure enough, the plastic portion on the stainless steel drum cracked apart while grating cheese (see the picture). We probably only used it once every two weeks, and it didn’t last 4 months at that rate. I wouldn’t have been surprised if the the entire handle cracked off. In any event, to try to make the best of it, I Googled “vivaant replacement drums” so that I could still use it, but I did not find any available. As I wrote above, we contacted the manufacturer because they warrant the product for life.Again, Vivaant sent me a replacement grater and new rollers immediately. Yesterday, I grated a large chunk of Parmesan-Reggano. The new system was more sturdy. It felt solid. I am now pleased with the purchase.

I love this! I use it at least twice a week. Support could not be better either!

Several years ago I decided not to purchase pre-shredded cheese after watching some videos about the additive they use to keep the shredded cheese from sticking together. I tested freshly shredded cheese vs pre-shredded at home and freshly shredded cheese tasted and melted so much better than the pre-shredded. I do use my Ninja for most shredded cheese. However, Parmesan didn't shred well in the Ninja. I was also concerned that many grated and shredded parmesan cheeses do not even require refrigeration. I remember seeing a similar grater to this at various different Italian restaurants. It was so easy to do and tasted so much better than pre-grated! I use it at least twice per week! I love this thing.I must use it too much as I did break one of the grinders. It was over a year so I figured the warranty would be over. I looked online and found out they would replace it or refund it for life. I found the email address that they requested I send the info to, but it was Sunday. I thought it would be days until I heard from them. Nancy emailed me back within a few hours (again, on a Sunday) and asked for my order number. I gave her my Amazon order number and she emailed me back that Amazon would send me another one.I came home today (Tuesday) and I have a brand new grater waiting for me! I could not be happier with this purchase and it is great to have someone show some good ole fashioned service.

Incredible Customer Service and Product

I just have to share how incredible this company is. I had been using my ancient Zyliss cheese grater for years, and when it finally fell apart I went searching for another rotary grater with storage containers. The Vivaant grater was one of the first that met all of my criteria. After a quick arrival and using it a couple of times, it did the job. While personally, I use the rotary grater for Parmigiano and prefer small shaving of the cheese. This grater definitely produced more of a small shred as opposed to a fine grate. When the company reached out to check my satisfaction, I figured it wouldn't hurt to ask if they had any additional drums that produced smaller shavings that I could purchase. The person I was communicating with, Nancy, was by far the best customer service representative I have ever communicated with. Not only did she understand my request and was apologetic about the fact that they do not offer exactly what I was hoping for. But she went out of her way to find an older model of their grater (that has a smaller drum and therefore produces smaller shreds) in their warehouse and send it to me free of charge. What an incredible experience, and if their product holds up as long as they promise, I will be a returning customer for sure!

The Whole Package

I have always loved my Vivaant cheese grater and now even more! We have a busy house with three young sons that run through life with lots of energy. Our Vivannt rotary cheese grater gets used daily, with great force and little thought. It has served us well for over 8 years, until recently we broke the ring off of the cylinder grater. Frankly, I'm surprised it didn't happen sooner. When I reached out to Vivaant about a purchasing a new cylinder, I immediately got a reply explaining that they have a life time warranty on their products that they take seriously and their was no need to purchase anything....that my replacement for the entire assembly was on the way. A DAY LATER IT WAS AT MY HOUSE! A company with integrity and a product that performs excellently.

After 5 years of use exceptional customer support when handle breaks

The Vivaant hand cranked cheese grater we purchased in 2021 has worked excellently. When the handle broke after years of use I was able to contact Vivaant and a new handle was provided. We are very satisfied with this purchase and with the exceptional customer support.

Great Quality with Outstanding Customer Care

I recently purchased the Vivaant Rotary Cheese Grater, and it has quickly become a staple in my kitchen! The grater performs smoothly, handling everything from cheeses to harder ingredients like nuts and chocolate with ease. The sharp stainless steel blades make grating a breeze, and cleanup is simple since it all comes apart and it's dishwasher-safe.One minor issue I encountered was with the container attachments—they didn’t fit snugly onto the grater initially, which caused them to fall off during use. However, after reaching out to Vivaant's customer service, they responded immediately and sent replacements right away. The new parts fit perfectly, and I was genuinely impressed by their quick response and willingness to make things right. Amazing customer service like this is rare, and it makes a huge difference in my overall experience. If you’re looking for a reliable, versatile cheese grater backed by a responsive support team, the Vivaant Rotary Cheese Grater is a fantastic choice. Highly recommended!

Good grater as long as you aren’t forceful.

Original Mouli grater no longer available. Metal imitations did not work well (bent and made black marks on cheese). This one does a good job so far. For plastic, it is well made. I am careful to not use large chunks of cheese or squeeze too hard when using. Accessories are a plus.

My new cheese grater

This cheese grater is very well made and easy to use. It comes with an additional size grating barrel for larger grate. I enjoy using it.

AAA+ customer service

I purchased this grater because it had the refillable container that catches the product as you grind. Then it has a nice cap for a seal. When I received the product there was a note in the box that said to contact Nancy the owner of this family business. Despite the fact that the handle and frame were of a heavy durable plastic, the attachable containers would not tighten and slipped off, making the container feature useless. I decided not to complain and return the product because the grater was rugged and worked well. Since I kept it, I sent an email to Nancy. I really didn't expect any response. It blew my mind when not only did she immediately respond that the loose containers were a manufacturing defect that has been corrected but she offered to send a replacement ASAP. .I received the new containers Priority Mail, I tried them out and this is a really nice unit. It is very convenient to collect the shavings as you go and then have a cap to put on top.All I have to say is that I was blown away by the rapid response for a relativity inexpensive product. I would shop there for anything else. Thank you Nancy

Great little grater for any need

After looking at several different versions of this hand-held grater from several different vendors, I settled on this one to use in grating fresh parmesan. I've always in the past used the dry grated parmesan that comes in the bottle (such as Kraft parmesan) or the shredded stuff you find in the grocery cheese aisle but have always wanted to try fresh parmesan like you get at Olive Garden. I finally took the plunge and ordered this one - I liked the ease with which it could be disassembled and would work easily for left- or right-handed people (the crank handle is easily swapped). We've gone through a full block of fresh parmesan now with this grater and so far I've really enjoyed using it. The fresh parmesan just adds something special to any dish, taking it to the next level over the packaged stuff, especially when used to garnish plated food for serving. The grater is easy to use and, given how easy it is to take apart, is easy to clean as well.I haven't tried this yet for any other kinds of product (chocolate, other cheeses, etc.) so I haven't used the larger-sized grater drum, though I expect it to function well also. The included containers that you can attach and grate into are pretty small, to be honest, so I don't really envision myself using them at all. I suppose that you could use them if you wanted to take freshly grated parmesan to add to your lunch or something but they really are only good for about 1 person's worth of cheese. So, more gimmicky than anything IMHO but not a negative for the product, just something to keep in mind. Finally, I liked that this grater was sold by a smaller mom-and-pop vendor and I like supporting the little guy, as it were. I can, based on my experience, definitely recommend this grater.

This thing is grate

I am a former chef and a constant cook. My own kitchen is outfitted better than most restaurants, with everything professional grade or better. There is no comparison between freshly grated parmesan versus the stuff in a can. (Frankly, I'm not even sure what that stuff in a can is since it has a taste and consistency somewhere between sawdust and kitty litter.)I hate using a box grater for hard cheeses. It seems to leave as much cheese on the grater as it does on my board. I've employed MANY rotary graters over the years, only to be disappointed in their construction as well as their inability to do what they're supposed to do: grate the cheese/nuts/chocolate/etc. that I'm running through there.Inevitably they find their way into the recycling bin, another exercise in futility and waste of money. As I banked my latest disappointing grater off the lid of the bin and into the cylinder, I began my quest for the next member of my cabinet. This rotary grater had received numerous positive reviews, so I thought I'd take a shot. When it arrived and I unboxed it, I was immediately impressed. Loved the design and construction, as well as the "extras", such as some small containers that could attach to the grater and be able to be filled and/or used at the table or for storage. Nice touch. The keystone design on the grating cylinder allows for quick assembly/disassembly and makes cleaning a breeze. Let's not forget the most important part: it tears through my parmesan/Romano/chocolate like a breeze. Its performance is top notch. I was suitably impressed (and that is not an easy thing to do).Now for the negative...kind of. While I was cranking my way to a pile of parm, the grating cylinder broke. One of the support ribs did not handle the stress of hard cheese well. I swapped out the cylinder for a slightly larger grate and finished the job. (By the way, the cylinder for the softer cheese does a great (grate) job on the harder cheeses, but it's s slightly larger grate).Believe it or not, that failure turned out to be a good thing. When I contacted the company, they immediately acknowledged the issue, told me that they had a problem with that and had it redesigned with a different material to overcome the problem, and promptly sent me a replacement. All companies are good when you have no problems. But here's the thing...you can't run a business and not have problems. It's the businesses that care for their customers and take care of the problems that truly deserve our business. Standing behind their products or services should be the gold standard. In too many cases it's not...but it is here.Companies like that have gotten to be too few and far between. The ones that stand up for us, well...they deserve our business and receive my loyalty. Thank you again for a great (grate) product and amazing service.

Almost perfect, but still a very good tool.

I love to cook, I like seeing others enjoy something I made for them. One thing I never thought about was using already grated cheeses. Once I tried just grating my own I was hooked. Not only is the fresh grated cheese so much more flavorful, but most pre-grated cheese usually contains some type of cellulose to keep it from sticking together, but that also seems to keep it from melting down smoothly. I have a box grater, but it just isn’t convenient for hard cheeses, it’s messy, and just isn’t something I would dig out to say, garnish a plate of spaghetti. So I got this grater to simplify the task of grating those delicious blocks of Parmesan, Parmigiano-Reggiano, and Pecorino Romano. This grater does a great job of reducing those blocks into delicious piles of grated cheese. I am very happy with it and didn’t give it 5 stars for just two reasons. One, the handle feels just a little too flexible. It hasn’t broken, and it works great, but it just feels like I have to be careful not to put too much pressure on the handle. The second reason is the storage shakers that come with it. They are a great idea, but just a little too small to be really useful. It would be nice if at least one of them was big enough to fill up at the counter and put on the table for guests. A dinner party of 6 would use way more cheese than these little guys would hold. Other than those two minor improvements, this grater is a really good unit. I would definitely buy again, those two negatives are just little things I would change.

game changer, I love it so much!

I LOVE this so much! I made my first batch of homemade mac and cheese this Thanksgiving and all recipes called for freshly grated cheese. Apparently the pre shredded cheese at the store has a chemical that's a texturizing agent to prevent clumping, and it's toxic and also masks the flavor. The fact that this is handheld, easy, simple to use and clean is a total win. I will use this a lot, am so glad I found it. Safe, great value!!

Perfect - so easy to use - great to have the containers to store the extra cheese
