Patience and perseverance result in a quality grind and quality cup of coffee. So far so good.

UPDATE BELOW initial review.More uniform grind than using my dying blade coffee grinder. It takes a longer time, but patience is a virtue! My main problem is one others have reported: gripping the grinder to crank it turns out to be mighty tough since it is a slender cylinder with a slick surface. Also, setting the grinder on the counter to grind as shown in the example is very awkward. I ended up using a nonslip silicone hot pad on the counter on which to brace the bottom of the grinder at an angle comfortable for grinding. Then I used my rubber circular grippy jar opener to grip the cylinder with one hand while I cranked with the other. STRENGTH, PATIENCE, PERSEVERANCE is required. If you don’t have those, get a larger grinder or an electric one. That said, so far I like it since it takes up little space, works well enough, and isn’t another electric appliance. It produces a good uniform grind and is easy to set, though you do have to take care you don’t accidentally change the grind number gripping it in the wrong place while grinding. Not sure I’d use it for travel unless I was driving since I’d have to take all my grippy add-ons too. (attached photo to see them.)So far, besides requiring a bit more effort, this seems a quality reliable product that does what it claims, so I am pleased with having my new manual burr grinder!—————UPDATE: After a month of using this grinder, I am VERY happy with it. Using the setup I describe above, I have adjusted my grip and action to use less strength and effort. It’s important NOT TO PACK beans up to the brim, as that automatically increases the resistance. The grinder is angled on the counter when I grind and both the hand holding the grinder and the hand using the handle rotate in a complementary way as I grind (if that makes any sense.) It takes me less than 5 minutes for one grind.Note: Be careful to check the grind number before starting a grind as it’s easy to accidentally change it.

High Quality Grinder (this is the one)

UPDATE: I've had this grinder for 2 years now and been using it almost daily. Still going strong, I love it!Beautifully crafted grinder with consistent and efficient grind that's a pleasure to use; grinding is nearly effortless due to long handle that stays firmly seated on shaft and grinds fast due to efficient burr design. Seemed like it took less than a minute to grind a hopper full of beans (~32 grams) on #4 setting which is good for pour-over; considerably faster than my Hario. I haven't timed the other settings, but a finer grind will take longer.I upgraded from my reliable Hario Coffee Mill Slim that I purchased over 9 years ago. The Vivaant grinder is superior in almost every way . . . craftmanship, efficiency, and ease of use. Hario is more durable due to plastic housing, is easy to completely disassemble with no tools for thorough cleaning, and has ceramic blades which aren't as sharp initially but hold their edge longer. With the Vivaant, the blades are metal that can dull over time (a long time), could potentially rust (seems unlikely), and only the bottom burr can easily be removed without special tools. I suppose being able to completely disassemble doesn't matter, but frankly moisture being trapped in the grinder after cleaning with soapy water is a concern for me; instructions say to remove hidden moisture with a hair dryer. The potential minor shortcomings are not a concern because Vivaant is backed by a lifetime warranty and superb customer service; Nancy was quick to respond to my email, went out of her way to address a price drop I noticed a few days after purchase, and she re-iterated their lifetime warranty if anything happens to my grinder or if the performance changes. Truly top notch product and company. You can't go wrong with either grinder, if you want cheap and durable, get the Hario Slim, but if you want a quality grinder that's a pleasure to use every morning, and backed by customer satisfaction guarantee, this is the one for you! The product and packaging are true Apple quality, so a fantastic gift idea for the coffee enthusiast in your life.

Outstanding Grinder - Sturdy and Fast

This coffee grinder is outstanding. I’ve used half-a-dozen manual coffee grinders and did a deep dive bit of research on these types of grinders, on Amazon and reputable sites on the net. This is a very high-quality grinder. You know there’s nothing like freshly ground coffee beans for your coffee, the taste is very noticeable and it is great. This little machine grinds your coffee from Turkish to French pot incredibly consistently and quickly. You can adjust it really easily and quickly, the grind settings are on a ring on the outside, easy to turn and it grinds very accurately. It’s easy to see the grind levels, they’re numbers 1 thru 6 on the outside of the machine. You’ll find that many grinders have the grind adjustment inside the jar or cup, underneath next to the grinding blades or under the handle. Some of them you count the clicks to adjust the grind. This grinder you can see and change by rotating the ring on the outside to the number that you want. You can switch from super fine Turkish to French Pot or in-between really easily and quickly. It has a metal Burr and ring cylinder instead of ceramic. Here’s a comparison, it took me more than 15 minutes and close to 20 minutes to do a Turkish grind on a ceramic grinder that is very highly rated on Amazon. For Turkish style this grinder will give you an excellent fine, powder like grind on setting #1, and it’s fast. You can fill the jar in about 2 minutes. On setting 2 thru 6 it’s even quicker. The metal burr system is durable, precise and sharp, you can feel this when you’re grinding your beans. One of the huge advantages of a metal grinding system is how quickly and consistently they grind. Ceramic burrs are OK, but when you take them apart you will see and feel that they are not nearly as sharp as metal. This machine is made of Stainless steel that is substantial instead of aluminum or paper-thin metal. Many of the other grinder descriptions will not tell you what metal they’re made of, usually aluminum. This grinder is machined and built making the grinding mechanism highly stable, not wobbly where it gives you an uneven and inconsistent grind, a major complaint about other grinders. My wife drinks drip type, mine is Turkish and I grind whole beans for both of us each day. Always consistent grinds.Customer Service from this company is fast and absolutely outstanding. I had a small glitch, wrote to them and got a return email that solved my concern, with pictures to help, very, very quickly. The email was written by a person instead of a surly customer service agent, and she expressed her desire to get my issue fixed to my satisfaction quickly. She solved it with me as a customer in mind the entire time. Her concern was refreshing and made me feel good.

Solid Entry-level Steel Burr Grinder

I have been making a pot of hand ground, french pressed coffee every morning for several years, thinking my coffee game was on point. Enter James "Wet Cheese" Hoffmann (YouTube). The grinder this is replacing is a ceramic conical burr hand grinder. The burrs in the old grinder are not braced at the bottom end. It can grind quite coarse, but is most inconsistent at it's most coarse setting.Overall I am quite pleased with this grinder. My goal was to get a steel burr grinder with full stabilization to improve the consistency of my grind. The Vivaant grinder accomplished this, and it has had a large, positive impact on the flavor of my daily brew. That said, I do have some notes. These are criticisms, I'll try to hold the snark.I really don't like the brushed-metal-over-plastic of the grinder body. I see metal in the product picture these days, I'm expecting full metal construction when the unit arrives. If it has to be plastic for cost, fine, but please don't try to dress it up. On my grinder, the brushed-metal over-sleeve isn't attached to the underlying plastic very well.I could use a larger hopper and catch jar. To grind approximately 50 grams of dark roast beans, I have to fill the grinder twice.I would like better access to the burrs for cleaning. Old coffee is old coffee, I don't want it going into today's brew. Seasoning cast iron is a completely different thing. Food oils go rancid, and plant material decays. I want to be able to know I'm getting all that stuff out of there.I'm okay with having six selections for grind size. I feel like the larger end of the grind could go much larger. I'm using the Vivaant on the coarsest setting, and the grind size is, on average, one fifth the size of the previous grinder.Last - and this is cosmetic - I feel like, if someone is hand-grinding their coffee, they are probably past the stage of measuring ground coffee by volume. When I use this grinder, the beans are measured by weight before they go in. Tablespoon markings on the jar aren't necessary.

Great service

Excellent grinder. I've been using it for years without any issues. I recently broke the glass jar (entirely my fault) and I wrote to Vivaant to enquire about buying a replacement. Although none was available, the wonderful Nancy with support mentioned that she had a spare jar in her office that she would send to me, free of charge. Amazing service! Vivaant now has a customer for life as a result.

Nice little portable grinder

Handy to have. It is a little hard to hold while grinding and a little hard to get the coffee beans in without spilling. It is durable and grinds the coffee very nicely though. Also, if you want the grinds to be larger for a French coffee pot or smaller for a drip pot you can easily adjust the size.

Happily I found my ideal pour over grinder!

Would love to rate this awesome ginder even higher than 5 stars. Here is a brief of my morning coffee saga. ( I can only imagine that others have gone through similar journeys of un-adventure.)After starting with a very good blade grinder -yet not the answer, I have gone through 3 different high rated $50 range burr grinders and 2 other hand grinders. The best blade grinder- even with the varied techniques to get consistent grounds wasn't ideal. The 3 burr grinders ALL, were very messy, full of static spewing coffee grounds when trying to transfer for my pur over. Then I tried other hand grinders with very high ratings. (one suggested by a local coffee shop as one they carried). The local one was SLOW SLOW SLOW at grinding and I almost gave up on the hand grinding. Then I went ahead and tried a high rated aluminum body grinder from Amazon. It worked for a little while. However, it also had static issues and grounds were marginally even.THEN, I tried this wonderful, wonderful hand grinder! NO static issues. Yippee! So here, below are my notes and thoughts on the Vivaant Manual Coffee Grinder. Hope they may help others trying to decide if to purchase or not. After very little experimentation and tightening of the nut (both detailed in the instructions) I was up and grinding my perfect grind!I use dark roast oily beans. I make an 18 ounce cup in the morning after breakfast. So as not to cram full the glass holding cup, I just put in half the amount at a time. (So for an 8 ounce cup, it takes me just 45 seconds of relaxed easy grinding. For a 12 ounce cup, it takes around 60 seconds) For me, 18 ounce including unscrewing and pouring in each container and putting my grinder back in cabinet - I am well under 2 minutes. After my initial minor tweeks, I am enjoying consistent coffee. SUCH a relief and positive "vibes" for my morning routines.I also, am impressed with what I have read by the mom and son company. I realize that there are many factors in their lifetime warranty and while I hope, they are successful in their business dreams, I realize also there is also, always supply issues that might happen. HOWEVER, all said and done, I am glad I have made a purchase that is well worth the price and the potential warranty is good enough for me.A few minor notes. 1. due to dark oily roast, there are "3" chambers for the beans inside the grinder you pour beans into. With the oily beans, sometimes the beans sort of wedge in one of the chambers so that when finished grinding, there are some left. NO Problem... I simply gently shake up and down a few times and that settles the beans and I complete the grinding. 2, Well there are no other notes :-) other than for those who haven't used a hand grinder. As you crank when complete, the handle simply free flows with no resistance.I hope this saves some from going through all the "experiments" and gets you into enjoyable morning coffee.

Best Coffee Grinder I've Used

This is the best hand-crank coffee grinder I've ever used. It chops the beans very finely or coarse depending on the type of brew you want to make. The rows of burs on the inside make it pretty easy work. It has a nice grip to the handle and the size is good. It has some heft to it, so it feels durable. Time will tell. So far, I am happy with this purchase. It is a little more expensive than I would have liked, but it is worth it for a good cup of coffee every day. I prefer a hand crank grinder over an electric grinder because of the portability and ease of use, especially when the power goes out. I have a wood fire heater for my home and I can always have a delicious cup of coffee no matter what the weather is like or if my home has power. Beans save so much longer than ground coffee, and they make a better pot in my opinion.

Well-built, sturdy, excellent grinds

Short story: It's good.Long Story:When I unboxed it, it was tightly packed inside foam with inset cut-outs instead of loosely packed with bubble wrap, so it was off to a great start. It's mostly made of metal, with a thick-walled glass container (with convenient measuring lines) to catch the grounds at the bottom, and only two significant parts made out of plastic--the selector for the fineness of the grind, and the bracket that holds the burr's shaft in place, which doubles as a liner. Now, the last one is an important detail to me. I previously had a hand grinder that also had a plastic bracket to hold the burr in place. It was thin and failed after 6 months. The hand grinder I used after that and before this one also had a plastic bracket, but it was twice as thick and has lasted for a year and still has no signs of failing. The Vivaant's bracket is several times thicker and more sturdy than either of my old hand grinders, and has an even better design: The old ones each had a simple x-shaped flat piece (with a hole) that was only connected to the bottom of the grinder's upper chamber. This one is supported by the entire interior of the grinder's body from top to bottom and all around (by consequence, the inner part of the bracket divides the upper chamber into three, while the outer part acts as a liner that holds it snug in the grinder body). I was mildly impressed by the design itself, but the important part was that it was well-fitted and built thickly. I expect this to last.I did not get this because my last grinder failed (it's still good, and I still like it), I got it because I've never had a manual grinder with a steel burr before and wanted to see what the fuss was all about. But it turned out better than I expected so I'll be using this as my main grinder from now on and retiring my last ceramic burr grinder. The grounds are more consistent, the grinding is much faster (~30 seconds for medium-coarse, which used to take me ~60 seconds before), and it feels more solid and well-built in my hands.I was originally looking at steel burr hand grinders in the $100-200 price point, but this one caught my eye because the owner made thoughtful replies in the Q&A section of the product page. Kudos for that. I highly recommend this grinder.

Great Customer Service

I've had this grinder for more than a year now and I accidentally dropped the glass jar you grind into and it shattered so I wrote an email to vivaant and I was so surprised by the owner sending me an email that they don't stock them but Nancy had one in her office and shipped it to me. That's awesome customer service and there just isn't enough of that happening today. Thank you so much Nancy, your the BEST.

Superior Product and top tier support

This grinder is well designed, sturdy and easy to use and clean! The quality of the morning coffee has improved by orders of magnitude with grinder and a little effort. One of the best product experiences from an Amazon purchase, and I buy through Amazon often!Their product support is unrivaled in my experience. I failed to attach the catch jar securely and it fell off while grinding coffee... Duh. I sent an email seeking to buy a replacement (they are not setup to sell replacement measured jars at this time) so after a bit of back and forth between myself and a lady named Nancy, she had located a jar somewhere in their office(?) and offered to send it to me. no cost. Come on, who does this kind of thing in this world we share? Somehow this act of kindness makes the world a little bit brighter.

IT'S WORTH EVERY PENNY!!!

This grinder is worth every penny. I swear it makes my usual coffee beans taste better when ground in number six, the coarsest grind, for my french press coffee maker. I suppose I must attribute that to the fact that as an adjustable conical burr grinder, each particulate of coffee drops down more or less in a uniform size, rather than more random with the electric blade grinder I used to use. Never more to use, though. I fill the top compartment up completely with coffee beans, then force the grinding top down upon the beans and start grinding. And that almost fills up the glass container. Than quantity, with glass jar completely filled becomes exactly 4 ounces, or one half of a cup. The glass jar works great so that one can see exactly how much coffee has been ground up. The danger, though, is that, if dropped, it might break. I dropped mine and the glass jar broke. But, all is not lost because, thankfully, when I started using the marvelous grinder I took the time to experiment and discover the glass jar capacity when filled to capacity with coffee beans. I sent an email to the Vivaant store asking to purchase another jar, hoping that is a possibility. But, if not, I'll just grind away directly into my french press-but carefully. Breaking the jar was my fault. The jar needs to be glass so as to be able to see the contents. I just needed to be more careful. So I still rated my new grinder at five stars. And I would give it more if I could. IT'S WORTH EVERY PENNY!!!Additional updte:Vivaant contacted me and offered a replacement jar without the measurement markings, that they had and offered to sens it to me. They answered my email the very day I sent it off. So, how was that for customer service? They are trying to set up the way to order replacement glass jars and I suppose they will one day become available for the fumble fingered among us to order replacements for our broken jars. I keep using the grinder without the jar, just keeping the bottom of the grinder inside my french press to collect the ground beans. But it is not as easy to do, although doable. However, even under less than ideal conditions the grinder still really works well. I'm still impressed!Second Additional update:I've been using it now for a couple of months and it still functions flawlessly for me. Even though I still have the glass jar I no longer use it. I bypass it and grind without it. Since I know how much coffee results from grinding a full load of coffee beans, I just load it, hold it tightly over my stainless french press and grind away. I admit occasionally I must shake it sightly to keep the beans against the burr grinder but it works so well otherwise it is just a minor inconvenience. When the load is finished, I open it and toss it some more beans to give my mixture a slightly stronger brew, and grind them into the press as well. I did not even need the glass jar. I no longer even use it. What an amazing grinder! It still looks brand new. So, "YES", IT'S WORTH EVERY PENNY I spent for it! I threw away the electric grinder I had as I know I'll never use it again.

The perfect coffee grinder!

A versatile coffee bean grinder with six settings. It gives me the perfect grind for my stovetop percolator, setting 3, and for my espresso maker, setting 1. I’ve been using this grinder daily for 6 months. I can honestly review it as quality made, durable, and a space saver!

Almost perfect!

Excellent grinding performance, easy to clean, and in general it fulfils its designed purpose. The SS grinding cone is wear-resistant, ensuring a longer product lifespan. However, spare parts for the glass jar are not available for sale. In my case, it broke, and it was hard to find a perfect-fit recipient. This part should also be metallic!

Very Nice Manual Coffee Grinder

This stainless steel manual coffee grinder has an attractive, modern design making it feel like a premium tool—solid in the hand, well-balanced, and clearly built with care. The conical steel burr is smooth and consistent, and the grinder offers 6 adjustable settings, making it easy to switch between fine and coarser settings. It also holds up to 32 grams of coffee beans, which is more than plenty for a generous single cup or even for two smaller servings. The grinding action feels clean and efficient, the handle has a comfortable grip, and it’s surprisingly quiet, especially compared to electric grinders. Cleaning and assembly/disassembly is quick and easy. And one of the biggest selling points is their lifetime warranty as well as their customer support. A special shout-out to Nancy, who went above and beyond to answer my questions and make sure I was completely satisfied.Highly recommended for anyone who appreciates a well-made coffee tool.

Solid grind with solid customer service

I’ve been using this grinder regularly since March 2025 and have been very happy with it. It produces a consistent grind, adjusts easily, and works especially well for AeroPress and pour-over coffee. One thing I appreciate compared to some plastic grinders is that it produces very little static when emptying grounds. The grinder has held up well over time, and customer service was outstanding when I accidentally shattered the glass jar while traveling. Vivant quickly helped me with a replacement and went above and beyond to send a properly marked jar. Excellent product and excellent support. Highly recommended.

Quality Manual Coffee Grinder

First of all, I've had this manual coffee grinder for over two years now and have used it almost everday. My husband and I initially bought this grinder for camping and roadtrips, but we liked it so much that we ended up using it as our main coffee grinder because it works so well. It's easy to clean and fits our hands perfectly for a good grip. One full grind makes about 4 cups of coffee which is perfect for the both of us. We also love how it has 6 options for the type of grind. It's so easy to use and takes minimal effort to get a good amount in seconds. I've tried others and it's a strain having to muscle it just to get a decent yield. The difference is that this grinder has a dragon tooth burr design that makes the grinding process incredibly smooth and effortless. One last note is their excellent customer service! We really appreciate their assistance in helping us get a replacement glass jar for our grinder. We are super grateful for their customer support team, and we definitely recommend this coffee grinder for those looking for a quality product.
